Laziness comes to mind when I think about the technology my family and I appear to be unable to live without - but of course COULD live without. Or perhaps we just need to stop using it for certain things. I'm talking about cell phones. Yes, it is essential to us so we can contact our daughter at any moment and her us. But surely not when we are all in the same house? Yep, we use this technology when we are downstairs to call her upstairs to ask her to come downstairs. She does the same thing. Never mind that the extra exercise to climb the two floors would benefit us greatly; it's just easier than yelling when we know she won't be able to hear us because her music is blasting. Does it always work? No. She is usually on her phone and we get her answering machine.
Plan B then comes into play. After all, desperate times call for desperate measures;we then have no choice but to text her. And while texting her, why not ask her to bring down something we need from the upper floor???? No, she is not a child slave. She does this more than we do. She will text us to ask us where something is in her room WHILE SHE IS IN IT! So can we live without using cell phone technology this way? I say no. My rationalization is that it saves on our vocal chords. And reduces my chances of falling down the stairs again, breaking the other foot.

Using the cell phone must have been a big help when you did break your foot! And who knows, the way things seem to go communicating by cell phone and texting may be the way of the future. Although we do need to set limits on when we text not so much become of proximity but because of safety. All this from some one who still doesn't know how to text on her seldom used cell-phone! :)
