16 Wiki 16 Wiki 16 Wiki

Wikis can contain content and pictures, making boring staff content a bit spicier. One of my favorites is found here http://www.seedwiki.com/wiki/antioch_university_new_england_library_staff_training_and_support_wiki/closing_for_snow?wikiPageId=1546644 - there could have been a picture of a car trapped under the snow to go alongside the Snow Closings staff content. Instead they chose a calming, nice picture AND made it informative through the ability to click on it to learn more.

Thing # 17

I marked my adventure on the Favorites page by naming my Favourite Kitchen Utensils/Gadgets. I really do not have a long list as me and the kitchen have fallen out of love as of late; I did name some of the things I had fun purchasing and using in my kitchen. Along with Rachel Ray 30-minute meal DVD's (it always takes me LONGER than the 30 minutes - whatz up with that?), I am always anxious to reach for them.

Thing 18 Working Backwards - Google Docs

My Google Doc Document is posted below. I liked the way Google Docs automatically saves at regular intervals, offers the same formatting options as Word, and allows posting to a blog to be a simple process.

Five Websites to refer patrons to whe...

Five Websites to refer patrons to when they request OPL purchase a DVD's above and beyond the budget

  1. Hulu - http://www.hulu.com/ Contains Hulu is an online video service that offers hit TV shows, movies and clips at Hulu.com and other online destination sites — all for free, anytime in the U.S.(from www.hulu.com)  Founded in March 2007, it contains full episodes of current and classic TV shows, classic War Movies, TV channel viewing, sports collages, News clips, and so much more. You can search for videos, watch movie trailers/clips, get caught up with the talk shows you missed while working, watch videogame clips, and subscribe to the RSS feed when new content is added. There are 20 second commercial content while viewing but the quality is clear and can be paused. No need to download any media players or programs or sign-up.

  2. Joost - www.joost.com

"What's Joost? It's a way to watch videos – music, TV, movies and more – over the Internet. We could just call it a website ... with videos ... but that's not the whole story.

We're giving you new ways to find what you'd like to watch. You can search in "traditional" ways – by title or category – or you can find suggestions from other people on Joost. They may be your friends, or they may just be people who have something in common with you – but either way, they can direct you to great things to watch. " (from www.joost.com). Joost opens up with a tutorial to help you navigate and understand the site. It requires a log on and you must download the content. It contains full retro tv shows, standup comedy snippets, comedy shorts and much more.

  3.  TVland - http://www.tvland.com/ Excellent site for older, classic TV shows. There are also tv show games, music videos, a documentary series called Myths and Legends, a schedule of their TV land marathons, a smattering of movies and current primetime TV shows. Programs are licensed for a period of time so are not readily available.

  4. NBC - www.nbc.com NBC offers many of their current TV shows on their website - full episodes and webisodes created just for the website with the characters in your favorite shows. You can also watch just snippets, download wallpapers and widgets to your computer, shop their store, and more.

  5. ABC www.abc.com. ABC offers only a bit of their TV shows online as full episodes and a player must be downloaded. I have never been successfull when downloading it.

#19 Web 2.0

I chose Zillow.com to look at. It automatically pinpointed my location to Omaha, lists the nearby schools, monthly payment, last sale and tax info, and show recent comparative sales. Alright, I just spent an hour on that site and forgot all about finishing this post. LOL. I like the ability to search by map and all of the virtual tours available with technology. Like seeing the house without a real estate agent!

YouTube - Thing 20 working backwards

I just introduced the Computer Basics Class to YouTube tonight as a resource for learning Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and other things from the How To Video section. I also warned them about the quality of the videos, discussing how they will differ in appearance, expertise, etc. The class was rapidly taking notes. Lets hope I did not start any addictions there.

Yes, Deirdre, I saw the little tribute there finally! Thanks for that. They also did a Kool-Aid commercial! Found here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KyklmxPsK1E.

Some may like the Dane Cook take on Kool Aid commercials found here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZP1USaPMXpI&feature=related

week 8 Thing 21 Podcasts!

I subscribed to a podcast called Learn Spanish with Coffee Break Spanish! The short nature of podcasts and the amazing variety on podcast alley makes learning so easy. And I found what may be the ultimate podcast called Library Geeks! Definitely something I would look at each day to keep up with everything. I downloaded the Juice Podcast to listen to Fred's World and had a problem with it importing the feed. I am going to try another one.

Week 9 Thing 22

I downloaded the player for MyLibraryDV. The most valuable content, in my opinion, is the How To and Cooking areas. The only drawback I see is the inability to rewind and forward if you happen to be working on the topic at the same time. An awesome site is http://www.hulu.com/ which has old tv shows along with current movies and tv shows. Check that site out!
